To All,

TBF of CT has hosted a safe and fair opens tournament trail for decades. On Sunday August 28 th 2025 the TBF of CT hosted the 7th opens tournament of the year on Candlewood Lake. (This was one of ten (10) tournaments scheduled for the year on Candlewood Lake.) The weigh in scale was tested prior to the weigh in and found to be accurate and repeatable. Sometime during the weigh in process, the scale malfunctioned and was found to be off by approximately a ½ lb. The tournament weigh in concluded with payouts as usual to the highest placing finishers and lunker.

There were several contestants who voiced concerns about the tournament. I spoke to those individuals regarding the tournament and addressed their concerns. The TBF of CT has taken steps to correct those concerns. We have removed the affected scale from service, purchased a new sturdy rigid table, purchased weights to test the scale prior to weigh in and have instituted procedures to prevent this from happening again. One of those safeguards is to have the scale tested with a contestant(s) as a witness during the scale testing process. Another is to have a back up scale on site.

Please remember scales are electronic/mechanical instruments which are eventually bound to fail. We will do everything possible to prevent this from happening in the future, but please be understanding that electronic/mechanical failure is a possibility.

Thank you for your understanding.

Respectfully,
Jim Johnson
TBF of CT President
